How Alto Works
Alto is a news aggregator. It reads the RSS feeds of independent and mainstream publishers continuously, sorts what arrives into editorial desks, and ranks each day's headlines by what readers are actually opening. Every headline links back to the publisher that reported it — Alto does not rewrite, republish, or paywall anyone else's work.
The lead story is chosen by a model rather than an editor, and Alto says so on the page along with the reason it was picked. AI is also used to flag developing stories and to summarize long articles. It is never used to write a headline or invent a fact, and anything it produces is labeled where it appears.
Alto is built by Gab, which also publishes original reporting at Gab News and Dissenter. Those are newsrooms; this is an aggregator, and the distinction matters when you are judging where a story came from.
