What Does the Bible Say About Loneliness?
The Bible's first assessment of aloneness is that "it is not good" (Genesis 2:18) — humans are made for relationship, with God and one another. Yet Scripture's deepest comfort to the lonely is the promise of God's unbroken presence: "I will never leave you nor forsake you" (Hebrews 13:5; Deuteronomy 31:6). Even when people fail or are absent, God does not withdraw.
Scripture also points the lonely toward community as God's ordinary remedy. The church is described as a family and a body, where believers are meant to bear one another's burdens. Loneliness is real and painful, but the Bible frames it as an invitation both to draw near to an ever-present God and to pursue the fellowship He designed us for.
