U.S. strikes Iranian targets in Strait of Hormuz for 2nd straight day

The U.S. military struck Iranian military targets in the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday, a U.S. official said.

Why it matters: This is the second day in a row that the U.S. is attacking Iranian targets in what U.S. official say is an effort to get the Iranians to stop attacking commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

Driving the news: The U.S. official said Wednesday's strikes are wider in scope than the strikes the days before.

• The targets include Iranian military coastal radars, anti-ship missile positions and air defense systems.

What they're saying: "At the direction of the Commander in Chief, U.S. Central Command forces have started conducting additional strikes against Iran to further degrade their ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz," CENTCOM said in a statement.

• "The United States is holding Iran accountable for recent unjustified aggression against commercial shipping and civilian crews freely navigating a vital international waterway."
