McConnell discharged from rehab center, Senate return still unclear

Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) was discharged from a rehab facility and has returned home amid his lengthy absence from Congress, he said in a statement released Thursday by his office.

The big picture: The 84-year-old lawmaker was hospitalized in June and has not been seen in public since, outside of images released by his office.

• The mystery of McConnell's continued absence has fueled questions about his capacity to serve the remainder of his term, which ends in January 2027.

Driving the news: "On the advice of my doctors, I'll maintain an intensive regimen of physical therapy from home during the state work period, and I'll continue to engage with my staff and colleagues on important Senate business," McConnell said in his statement.
