(Scott Johnson) When Erik Larson’s In the Garden of Beasts: Love, Terror, and an American Family in Hitler’s Berlin (2011) came out in paperback, I published my notes on it here. Visiting Berlin in the World War II tour I am on, I thought I would revisit them now. As I was reading it, I compared it with Laura Hillenbrand’s Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience and Redemption.
