What Does the Bible Say About Forgiveness?
Forgiveness sits at the center of the Christian faith: because God forgives sinners through Christ, believers are called to forgive others. Paul makes the logic explicit — "forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you" (Ephesians 4:32). Jesus ties the two together so tightly that He teaches His followers to pray "forgive us... as we forgive," and warns that an unforgiving heart is inconsistent with having received mercy.
When Peter asked whether forgiving seven times was enough, Jesus answered "seventy times seven" — meaning without keeping count.
