What Does the Bible Say About Salvation?
The heart of the Bible's message is that salvation is God's gift, not a human achievement. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life" (John 3:16). Paul states it plainly: "by grace you have been saved through faith... it is the gift of God, not of works" (Ephesians 2:8-9), so that no one can boast.
Scripture describes the human response as repentance and faith — turning from sin and trusting in Jesus. Romans 10:9 says that if you "confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." This new life is often called being "born again," a fresh beginning God works in those who come to Him through Christ.
