What Does the Bible Say About Patience?
In Scripture patience is not merely passive waiting but a fruit of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22) and a mark of love — "Love is patient" (1 Corinthians 13:4). It shows up in two directions: patience with circumstances (waiting on God's timing) and patience with people (bearing with one another's faults).
The Bible repeatedly links waiting on the Lord with renewed strength (Isaiah 40:31) and connects patience to character formation, arguing that endurance through trials produces maturity and hope (Romans 5:3-4; James 1:3-4). Patience, then, is not wasted time; it is the soil in which God grows steadfastness.
